The converer works well with my Samsung TV’s optical out and when watching freeview or playing media/content using the TV as the source of the material the conversion is superb. However…

…my main reason for buying this converter was to overcome the lipsync / sound lag issues that modern TV’s can introduce when watching a film while sending the audio direct to an A/V amp. I planned on sending the sound through the TV and then send the TV’s audio output to the A/V amp using the optical out (with this converter). With this arrangement the sound is in sync :-) . The only down side (and this is NOT the fault of the converter) is that the TV’s sampling of the input sound will determine the quality of the sound output via the optical link. Unfortunately the Samsung only manages to do what I would call an “adequate” job of sampling the input sound and this results in quite a flat sound output from the TV’s optical out. When watching freeview or online content, however, this is not the case and the audio is excellent.

I realise that the above information does not directly relate to the A/D converter but I thought it worth mentioning why I bought it and the limitations of this arrangement as I’m sure others will be looking to use this item to solve the same issue.

Most new Televisions have Digital Optical output.

This Digital to Analogue converter CYP AU-D3 converts the digital optical signal (Toslink) to 2 x Analogue Audio L/R (RCA) simultaneously.
It is very simple to install and you will be able to enjoy your cinema /theatre sound in minutes after you have made the very simple connections using the free Fisual Install Series Optical Cable.

I needed a DAC so I could use the time delay software of my LED TV to synchronise the TV speaker output with my bass woofer. The converter is small enough to fix to the rear of the TV with double sided tape and the power supply little larger than a 13A plug. An excellent product with the added bonus of the optical cable.
